Australian Green Goddesses Get Glam!

Stop Press! Director of Y-Yo Helen Coates has teamed up with Miss Green (Rebecca George) to launch a fabulous all-Australian Ethical Beauty Directory in April 2010!!!!

Helen Coates and Rebecca George, directors of Y-Yo Australia and Miss Green’s Wardrobe, have teamed up to give Australian Green Goddesses, Ethical Beauty for the Australian Green Goddess, a chic and comprehensive ethical beauty directory that supports Australian-made cosmetics.

This petite pocket sized beauty directory comes complete with the product and contact information for over 100 ethical Australian beauty brands, as well as tips and DIY beauty secrets from Helen and Miss Green. The book is fabulously finished with unique illustrations by Ruth Wang (Ruth was named as one of the world’s most exciting female artists in Yen Magazine’s 2009 annual art book Curvy 6).

Each brand featured in Ethical Beauty for the Australian Green Goddess is kind to the environment, animals and perhaps most importantly, to you and your family. With easy to read tables covering organic, paraben-free, sulphate-free, petrochemical-free, cruelty-free and vegan friendly brands as well as designated sections for face, body, hair, make up, baby, child and men, it is now easier then ever for Australian Green Goddesses to find ethical, Australian cosmetics for their everyday beauty regime.

Y-Yo Loves…

Little Innoscents

Australian made and owned, these products smell as good as they look! Currently I am using the Little Innoscents, Certified Organic Massage Lotion as an all over body and hand moisturiser. It’s perfect for my dry, sensitive skin and leaves me smelling of Lavender and Ylang Ylang – lovely!

It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that these products are not just for the little and innocent!

Keep your eye out for the bright packaging at your local Priceline.

Y-Yo Product Focus of the Month:

Y-Yo Slow

January is the month to relax and de-stress after the recent silly season. Spray some Y-Yo Slow on to your inner wrists. Close your eyes and lower your shoulders. Inhale the fragrance, take deep breaths and let your mind take you to a slower, tranquil place. The soothing notes of bergamot, juniperberry and lily of the valley act first to promote calmness and release tension. The more subtle base note of amber has a hypnotic, sedative-like effect.

Nasty Chemical of the Month:

Sunscreen or Sunscream?
There’s no particular one chemical this month. As we’re in the height of summer I ask that everyone please take care when using sunscreen. First and foremost – check the ingredient list! I was chatting with a shop keeper who had tried, without success, every commercial cleaner out there to remove graffiti spray-painted on the front of her shop. She eventually found something that did remove it – sunscreen! One can only imagine the harsh chemicals that goes into such a formulation. Quickly scanning through the sunscreen products at my local chemist, myriad nasties with names too long to try to pronounce, dominate ingredients lists. Consider natural alternatives such as UV Natural’s sunscreen, Rosehip Skincare’s Suncare Oil and Wotnot’s face and body sunscreen lotions to protect you and your loved ones this summer.

Y-Yo Chemical Free Tip of the Month:

DIY Green Tea Facial Mist

Green tea is marvellous! I wish that I had a dollar for every time I’ve read what it can be used for in one’s chemical-free beauty regime. This month’s tip is a recipe for Green Tea Facial Mist – perfect for the hot summer month of January.

Steep 10 green tea bags (or half a cup of green tea leaves) in 500mls of boiled water (preferably filtered water). Cool and strain into a bottle and chill in the refridgerator. A recycled Y-Yo 50ml cologne bottle is perfect for this. The green tea mix will keep in the refridgerator for about a week. Spritz when temperatures soar.

You can also soak cotton pads in the green tea mix. Squeeze out the excess, lie down somewhere peaceful and press the pads gently on to closed eye lids. Very refreshing!
